The Romanesque church of Saint Michel is exceptional because of its eight apsidal chapels and its carved tympanum.
Built in 1137 by Lambert who is the founder of the Abbey of La Couronne, the church was intented to welcome pilgrims and travelers.
The lower part of the church decorated with capitals and the tympanum of the door with Saint Michel killing the dragon show the high quality of the Romanesque sculpture in Angouleme.
The upper part has been restored in the 19th century and the steeple situated next to the church has been added at the same time.
