Ancient castle and ancient prison.  Built by the architect Edward Warin and Pommier, the covered market has replaced the Chatelet in 1888, former castle from the 13th century later transformed into prison.

This beautiful architecture blending glass and iron is directly inspired by the Parisian models including The Halles centrales of Paris.

The outdoor market is settled in the north of Les Halles. In the south, recent re-arrangements have returned a lively square in direct link with the urban city.
